To get started with Invisalign, a dentist takes an impression of the patient’s teeth. The impressions are sent to Invisalign headquarters, where they will be used to make size-appropriate aligners.
Invisalign uses a series of clear custom-made trays that fit over the teeth and gradually shift them into place over time. By wearing each set of trays for about two weeks, the teeth will gradually shift until they are in the proper position.
Each tray is worn for a longer time than the previous one until the final aligner – which does not have to be worn as long – realigns your teeth into their final position. The slight pressure that is put on the teeth causes them to gradually shift into place.
